A Week on the Estate: Shiny Porsches, Gin Trailer & Lincolnshire Day

This post is over 90 days old and may contain outdated information, links or references.

Autumn is definitely upon us. The temperatures are steadily falling and brisk south-westerly winds have brought a useful amount of rain.

We made the most of one of September’s last balmy days. Over at Driby, Roger and Jonny ploughed ahead of winter cereal drilling, while Richard chipped over land whose fields won’t be drilled until spring. This is a good option to help us control black grass.

For those of you who love to walk the Wolds, a handsome new footbridge is ready for years of British weather and muddy boots. We worked with our neighbours, the local footpaths officer and East Lindsey District Council to replace the old bridge on one of the estate’s public rights-of-way.

Closer to home, we were thrilled to host the Porsche Club of Great Britain. The Hall’s front lawn was graced by some sleek and glamorous motors, and their equally charismatic drivers and navigators.

We showed these petrolheads some Wolds hospitality. We shared the hidden treasures and vibrant gardens of South Ormsby Hall’s grounds then treated them to tea, coffee and hot Lincoln Red beef rolls at The Old School Tea & Coffee Shop. A bracing walk across the fields and through the woods to Driby was rewarded with a VIP tour of the Massingberd-Mundy Distillery courtesy of our Master Distiller Tristan Jørgensen.

Speaking of gin, Tristan took his beautifully furnished new gin trailer to a wedding reception at Stockwith Mill, Hagworthingham. The wedding guests were treated to mouth-watering miniatures and were keen to find out more from the man who devised these award-winning, small-batch gins.

If you’ve enjoyed this or any of Tristan’s tasting sessions, we’d love to know what you thought. Are you a Burrell’s Dry or a Marie Jeanne kind of person? Are there any flavour combinations you’d like Tristan to play with? Leave a comment on any of the gin posts on our Massingberd-Mundy page – we’d love to hear from you.

Lincolnshire Day on the Estate

Chapter Six of ‘Granny’s at Brinkhill’ can be found HERE. This week, Cecile Stevenson recalls walking past The Old School as a young child and deciding there and then to become a teacher. She also recounts a meeting with the ‘Lady of the Manor’, having been warned to be on her best behaviour as her family lived in tied cottages.

If you’re out and about in our neck of the woods on Sunday 3rd October,  St Leonard’s Church at South Ormsby will be holding its Harvest Festival at 9.30am. This will be our local church’s first service since March 2020. The Harvest Festival allows us to give thanks for a successful harvest. Donations of food (ideally dried, tinned and long-life goods) will be most welcome so that the church can share the blessings of the season with those less fortunate. After the service, we’d love you to join us at The Old School Tea & Coffee Shop for free tea and coffee.

Finally, this week brought us Lincolnshire Day. We’re proud of our rural heritage and we’re optimistic about the sustainable and prosperous future we’re building in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds. It struck us a good day to announce a bevy of new products, including limited-edition artisan gins and a range of high-quality, sustainable and delicious staples for your Christmas Dinner table.
