A Week on the Estate: Young Farmers, Beefy Moses & Winter Warmers
We’re more than halfway through meteorological autumn and this week’s weather brought us a bit of everything – a daytime high of 20C, an overnight low of 5C, calm days, blustery days, gorgeous sunshine and copious rain. If we got bored with the weather, we just had to wait a few minutes.
A useful amount of moisture in the soil was helpful to the team who laid turf behind The Old School Tea & Coffee Shop this week. This will make an attractive outdoor area next spring and summer when the new sward has bedded in.
We thoroughly enjoyed hosting Wragby Young Farmers at The Old School. They made their own Lincoln Red beefburgers with the help of our resident burger-king Mark Vines, and enjoyed talks from Jon Thornes on South Ormsby Estate’s history and Paul Barnes on organic land. A sip or two of artisan gin courtesy of the Massingberd Mundy Distillery was a highly agreeable way to round off the evening. These young people are the future of agriculture in our region and we look forward to seeing them again.
