Cadwell Sidecar Revival event and visitors on the Estate
Diary week ending 24th June
This week we were working towards the Sidecar Revival event at Cadwell Park. We were very keen to get visitors there to try our own Lincoln Red Beef. Chef Sam, from Salted Orange, served the braised beef in white rolls and roasted top side in home-made Yorkshire puddings.
Appetites had been whetted by the video showing the preparation of the prime beef cuts and the general consensus was ‘delicious’ and yes, we would buy it and certainly recommend it… so all good there! People admired the little silver Airstream caravan that we served it from and our huge 30 metre banner, of the Lincoln Red Herd, looked fantastic. The great weather and exciting racing ensured the event was enjoyed by all.
Earlier in the week, the Lincoln Gardens Trust group had visited us. We made sure they knew we are a ‘work in progress’ and they seemed to really enjoy seeing what we have restored so far. Craig, our Estate Steward, had planned an interesting tour for them. It started with the walled, Miss Anne’s, and kitchen gardens, onward down Lime Tree Walk and finally led to the front of the house.
Naturally, the group were interested in the historical importance of the landscaping and knew that, James Paine, had been instrumental in forming the lake and naturalistic vista at the front of the house. They believed James Paine to be linked with Capability Brown and so thought that there may be some of his influences evident here. They also were aware of, Joseph Spence’s, letters advising about garden design and were interested to learn that William Kent designed a summer house for the grounds.
Next week, the Chapterhouse Theatre Company shall be performing Sense and Sensibility in the walled garden – so the grounds are getting quite a lot of attention at the moment.
Up at the Rectory, the architects have been considering the interior design elements as we work our way slowly towards completion. The fireplace surround that has been purchased from Hemswell has been brought over and put in situ to see if will work with the wood burner in the proposed training room. Colour schemes and carpets are currently being chosen and now that the bathrooms are in it is starting to look more like a house and less like a building site.
We are getting closer to the Willow Weaving workshop on 14th July and Leanne, Events Manager, is hoping that it will be another great event following the success of the photo workshop. Weavers will spend the day making such items as a hanging basket or bird feeder and will be learning new skills that they will hopefully enjoy in the future.
