It’s starting to look more like spring
Leanne and Joe set off later on Wednesday for the first of the Cool Fab racing weekends. They certainly looked great in their Cool Fab gear and I know they were excited about meeting up with the families who were racing at Llandow in Wales.
One of our signs went mysteriously missing a while ago and so we commissioned Hughie to make us a new one and a spare. These are a bit prettier than the old ones and enhance the entrances (as well as telling people where we are).
We still have our defences against the beast from the east in place. The cold winds and snow actually penetrated every crevice of the front of the house and we retaliated by keeping the shutters fastened doubling the draft excluders and putting up make shift curtains in doorways. Snow still blew in to the front porch through. Thank goodness for the warmer weather and a bit of sunshine … but did someone mention snow at Easter?
Replacing soft fabrics in the hall is not really an option at the moment so Jacqui got out her sewing set and has been repairing the tie back and curtains –Make do and Mend!
Much of the scaffolding has come down now the builders have finishes repairing the roofs and putting mushrooms on the top of the chimneys. Painting of guttering and pipes has begun and Russ is seen here getting rid of the planter in the kitchen garden.
The digger came and started to dig out troughs for the cattle water stations. Unfortunately, it dug through the telephone line and some of the tenants were without communication. Open Reach came out and reconnected them the same day thank goodness.
Our nine chickens have started laying again. At first we thought this was not happening but the Craig found nine eggs in a pile of hay in the corner. We have now installed lighting in their sheds that comes on at 4am and goes off at 6.30am to encourage them further. The lights are not on at other times as it is important to get the chickens to roost at nightfall. They are now laying in their nesting boxes. Nice to have fresh eggs in time for Easter (as well as chocolate ones)!
We are keeping an eye on our nesting boxes. It would be great to have some occupied this Spring especially if the inhabitants were owls!
