A Week on the Estate: Blue Skies, Agile Owl & Wolds Festival

This post is over 90 days old and may contain outdated information, links or references.

We’re thoroughly enjoying this spell of high pressure and the calm, blue-sky days it’s giving us. Nesting birds, pollinating bees and our hard-working Estate team are making the most of it and building for a brighter future.

Life on a country estate is all about planning ahead. The weather may be getting warmer, but the Saturday Club are laying in fuel for next winter. Nearby in the Walled Garden, Clint Coughlan has given the lawn its first mow of the season and his rows are commendably neat and tidy. Out in the fields, Chris Hall and Jonny Clark have been busy ploughing ahead of the spring drilling programme.

Storm Eunice and her friends took their toll on our woodlands and casualties included a venerable beech tree. We’re harvesting the timber which will help us heat the Hall sustainably as biomass, and grow fresh produce around the Estate as wood chips.

Damian Furlong captured the aerial antics of one of our thriving barn owls. We particularly enjoyed the image of the owl appearing to give Damian an exasperated look for interrupting breakfast.

Mother’s Day, Sunday 27th March, is almost upon us and Tristan Jørgensen has put together a special gift pack for the occasion. For £40, you can treat your mum to a 70cl bottle of Massingberd-Mundy gin (Burrell’s Dry, Marie Jeanne or Blood Orange – the choice is yours) delivered free-of-charge to her door with a complimentary branded gin glass and gift wrapping. Orders must be received HERE by 12-noon on Friday 25th March to guarantee delivery.

Finally, the Lincolnshire Wolds Outdoor Festival gets underway soon and we’re very excited about it. We’re helping to showcase our wonderful countryside by offering free guided tours of historic South Ormsby Estate. We’ll be running daily tours, 1pm-4pm, from 30th April to 5th June.

Your tour will get underway at The Walkers’ Hut where you’ll be treated to a slow-roasted Lincoln Red Beef bap with our brand-new frozen custard for dessert. Suitably refreshed, you’ll enjoy a three-mile walking tour of our historic parkland and rolling countryside with one of our knowledgeable Estate team. Your last port of call will be the Massingberd-Mundy Distillery for a behind-the-scenes tour and complimentary samples of our award-winning artisan gins.

– We’re sorry but we can’t host your pooch on these tours as we’ll be passing livestock and visiting facilities where we produce food and drink.

– Dress for country walking in British weather.

– Feel free to bring a camera in case spectacular wildlife (or cute kids) cross your path. We always love to see your pics.
