A Week on the Estate: Festival Teamwork, Vineyard Hoeing & Nationwide Beef
This weekend’s weather is set fair but cool for the time of year with a temperature range of 15C-7C. The long-range forecast for early summer suggests we’re in for a cool, changeable early-mid June with the possibility of high temperatures towards the end of the month.
While it has felt and looked cool so far this year, appearances can be deceptive. The Met Office reports that despite above-average rainfall for much of the last six months, the UK experienced its warmest meteorological spring since records began in 1884. Spring 2024 averaged 9.37C compared to spring 2017’s 9.12C. May 2024’s average of 13.1C was 1C clear of May 2008’s 12.1C. Warmer air holds more moisture and we’re all familiar with the results.
Still, spring in the Lincolnshire Wolds worked out well for our Outdoor Festival tour programme and we got to show off our wonderful corner of the Lincolnshire Wolds in all its verdant glory. If you had the chance to join us, thanks for your company and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
A few of the folks who made our Outdoor Festival tour programme happen were pictured celebrating a job well done. Here’s Jacqui Rhodes: “It’s been a privilege to be a part of the Estate’s Outdoor Festival team this year. We’ve met some lovely people and worked alongside a fabulous team. A few of us enjoyed a drink together to round things off after a beautiful day last Sunday.”
Not far away, Jo was pictured with her splendid bike and trailer combo. If you’ve enjoyed a complimentary tea or coffee at the Walkers’ Hut in the Sheepdip Paddock parking area, Jo’s the lady who keeps everything topped up and spick and span. We offer a free brew (and a composting loo) here and the facility is open early till late, Wednesday to Sunday. You can park up, boot up and brew up all in one place.
The Outdoor Festival may be over but our artfully designed and free-to-download walking trails are available all-year round HERE. For a catch-up with Jo, head to our blog HERE.
If you enjoyed a tour of our vineyards, you may have discovered that there’s no such thing as a free lunch (or wine-tasting). When the tour-guests pictured with Pete get to taste our Wolds-grown vintages in years to come, they’ll be able to say they hoed the soil that grew them.
