A Week on the Estate: Organic September, Electric Wheels & Gin Returns
Meteorological autumn is here but nobody’s told the weather. At the time of writing, we have blue skies and daily highs of 27C. Temperatures will rise and peak over the weekend and more seasonable conditions are set to resume by the middle of next week. In a now-familiar pattern, we’ll see a 10C temperature drop in a matter of days.
It’s Organic September and Harvest 2023 is done and dusted. We’re proud to stand alongside the many farmers working hard to feed the nation while boosting biodiversity and ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare. We believe we can produce the food our community needs while protecting and improving the health of our natural environment, from the microfauna in the soil to the red kites riding the thermals over our pastures.
Achieving organic status for animal and arable produce and having our regenerative farming model recognised by the Pasture for Life Association are achievements of which we’re proud. Our farming improves and maintains a healthy soil biome, able to absorb more water and carbon, and helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We fertilise our land with organic manure from our livestock and natural nitrate fixers such as legumes and clover. We don’t use synthetic fertilisers and pesticides. We maintain the highest standards of welfare for all our livestock.
None of this is cheap or easy, but we think it’s important. When you buy our fine Lincolnshire produce, you’re supporting a low-carbon, wildlife-friendly farming model as well as good local jobs. Thankyou!
