A Week on the Estate: Welcome Rain, New Life & Tristan’s Farewell
2023 is whizzing by. We’ve passed the solstice and we’re thinking ahead to late summer and harvest season. This week’s brief but intense wet spell has been a boon for our flora and fauna; we can open the windows and smell the gratitude. Next week looks dry again with highs of 26C and lows of 12C.
Hot or cold, wet or dry, the Saturday Club are always up for a spot of outdoor work. Over the last few weeks, they’ve crammed a lot in. They harvested their first bumper crop, which was great news for lovers of radishes. They planted leeks and celery and trimmed the lower sapling branches on Lime Tree Avenue. They also found time to soak, separate and analyse owl pellets they’d gathered on their travels. It looks like our local apex predators dine out principally on field mice and voles.
Clint, Jo and Kitty found time in their busy schedules to take a few snaps of all the new life flourishing around the lake. Our new cygnets, goslings, ducklings and grebelets are thriving, as are dragonflies, swallows and more.
Nearby, the Walled Garden is putting forth a fine array of flowers and fruit. Clint couldn’t resist photographing a vast variety of blooms, and Colin gave us a new hanging basket.
At the Massingberd-Mundy Distillery, Tristan has called last orders. From Tristan and everyone on the team, we offer a heartfelt and affectionate thankyou to all our lovely, loyal and discerning fans of small-batch craft gin.
On Wednesday and Thursday, Tristan took the gin trailer to the Lincolnshire Show to say hello to our many local gin aficionados and take a well-earned victory lap. We hope you got chance to join him for a moreish cocktail and the inside scoop on all things gin.
