Achievements and Learning
We are very proud of our Community and Business Manager, Joe Blissett, who has recently won a silver International Green Apple Environmental Best Practice award for a project he designed and delivered in 2016. ‘The Fat of the Land’ project challenged Lincolnshire schools, businesses and allotments create their own community composting schemes. This resulted in them turning their kitchen waste, cardboard and cooking oils in to usable compost via hot composting technology. Innovative, green thinking is at the heart of the Estate’s vision, so we are looking forward to Joe’s input in achieving this following his success.
The South Ormsby Estate team were also awarded their First Aid Certificates this week. Julie O’Donnell, who was our local trainer from Best First Aid, came over to carry out a mini presentation to help us celebrate our achievements. Julie was an excellent tutor and we are hoping to use her services again in the future for some of the other courses she delivers.
This week saw the last of the three NBV Starting in Business workshops take place. The series saw the attendees taught the skills you need to start your own successful business. This included putting together a business plan, how to market your business, understanding the opportunities and risks, and how to manage your money successfully. Everyone who was on the course really enjoyed it and learned a lot from the trained instructors.
The Hall is possibly being used as a backdrop for a mini-documentary on how a gentleman would dress back in the eighteenth century. The documentary makers came over this week to have a look around at rooms they could use for filming. We have some beautiful old clothes that we believe date back to this period and we are hoping, as costume experts, that they might tell us about the history of the items we have when they return.
It’s great to be back to some level of normality too, now all the furniture, ornaments and photographs have been returned to their rightful place after the surveyors had been in. We realise that this is only to be for a short while, as work will soon be commencing on the restoration of the Hall.
