An event-full week
Things have been very busy at the Estate and we forgot to tell you about the lovely Morgan Car Day we had here on the 8th August. We had 14 cars come along for the day and they made for a spectacular sight on the lawn on the south side of the Hall in front of the Drawing Room and Library. The owners joined us for a picnic in the garden and there were also garden games set up to provide some light entertainment. We were delighted to have Leah Furlong help us with the games as part of her first day volunteering for us. Her volunteering at the Estate will count as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Award. She really enjoyed her first day and was lucky enough to sit in one of the lovely Morgan cars.
The Morgan Motor Company is a family owned car manufacturer which was founded in 1910 by Henry Frederick Stanley Morgan. You can still purchase a Morgan car today but the waiting list is approximately 6 months as they are hand built, with the family firm producing around 1300 cars a year. The original design for the Morgan had only three wheels and a wooden chassis.
For Leah’s second day of volunteering, she took part in the Layers of History recruitment day here in the New Room last week. Heritage Lincolnshire is running this project and is hoping to reveal more about the history of South Ormsby. They train volunteer workers to do this and have a number of archaeology related courses in the pipeline here on the Estate including geology of the area, landscape photography and oral history recording, as well as a residential weekend at Scamblesby. We also had a very exciting time last week with our second annual Beef and Bike Night as a precursor to the British Superbikes weekend at Cadwell Park. We were again blessed with a glorious sunny evening, despite the slightly damp start to the day. Lincolnshire band, The Stolen Fridays, entertained us again and it was great to get an insight to life as a racer from JG Speed fit Kawasaki riders Leon Haslam and Luke Mossey, as well as several Cool Milk-sponsored up and coming riders in the support series of Superbikes.
This year’s event was particularly special as we were able to offer our own premium Lincoln Red Beef in the form of hot Lincoln Red Beef Sandwiches and Lincoln Red Beef Sausage Hot Dogs. Many thanks to Salted Orange for some excellent catering. The Massingberd Arms did us proud providing guests with a pint and thanks also to Stokes Coffee who provided tea, coffee and soft drinks for thirsty guests. Our Events Manager, Leanne Winn did a really great job to pull it off without a hitch –toilets, huge LED screen, marquee, catering and lighting all arrived without any hiccups –thank you Leanne. It was great to watch everyone enjoying this free event.
The race weekend was really good too and we all enjoyed seeing the JG Speed fit Kawasaki team out on track at the world-famous circuit, where team rider Leon Haslam extended his lead in the Championship with a double win.
Leanne has also been busy hosting the Relaxation Course run by Sarah Hardy that was very well received by the ladies who attended the session. Leanne is also preparing for another Photographic Workshop on 6thSeptember. This one will be in the evening with the hope of capturing some magical sunset scenes across the Estate. It is appropriate for beginner and intermediate levels, and Damian, our Estate Photographer, will be offering instruction and tips as in his previous classes.
