Art workshops, renovations and Jacob

Here we are at the start of 2019. Things were really moving at some speed on the Estate towards the end of 2018 and we believe that this activity will only increase throughout 2019.

All our advisors including the architects at t-sa and Marcus Beale, the management teams at Cragg, and the planning strategy consultants at Indigo are ready to drive this project forward.

Over the coming year, we are looking forward to continuing to work alongside local businesses such as the painters and decorators at Straight Lines, Arthur Wood & Sons Builders, Lindsey Plumbing, Abbey Joinery and Nigel Ancliff the chimney sweep to name but a few, and it is great to see the Estate staff have returned from their Christmas break with renewed vigor for the new year.

Ecologists RammSanderson have been given the remit to look at all aspects of nature and wildlife on the Estate. We are looking forward to seeing the results of their work soon. Leanne, our Event Manager is also hoping to carry out the RSPB Big Bird Watch over the weekend of the 26^thto 28^thJanuary.

The Rectory is nearing completion and the people who are going to run it as a Bed and Breakfast establishment are in place. The Rectory couldn’t have a more idyllic setting on the Estate. The five spacious bedrooms offer very comfortable accommodation in a historic building with beautiful views across the Lincolnshire Wolds.

The chandelier from Hemswell Antiques was brought over a few weeks ago and the lovely pink glass shades arrived this week. It is not going to be hung until close to the completion as we don’t want it to get covered in building dust.

John Scarborough has now visited a large number of our Estate properties. He has been assessing what repair work needs to be scheduled into the programme for 2019.

We are pleased to announce that Jacob Pearson, our Assistant Hall Steward, has gained a position on a Sports Apprenticeship. He has been working at the Hall over the past year whilst taking a gap year to decide what career he really wanted to pursue. He also needed to earn some money to pay for his driving lessons. Whilst it is beautiful living in South Ormsby, it is somewhat isolated, and that is tricky for young people who don’t drive. Now Jacob has passed his test, he is able to get to Louth and work as well as gain a little more social freedom. His Sports Apprenticeship is with Magna Vitae who are offering Jacob a bespoke course to enhance his already comprehensive set of sports qualifications gained at school and college. Congratulations Jacob – it looks like 2019 is going to be your year!

We do have some events planned into the New Year as well.

Lincolnshire artist, Laura Andrew will be at the Old School on Saturday 19^thJanuary between 10am and 4pm sharing her skills for the Drawing and Painting Workshop. This course will teach the fundamental basics in a relaxed, creative atmosphere and is suitable for those who have never drawn before or those wishing to improve.

We welcome the Layers of History Team back to South Ormsby on Thursday 31^stJanuary between 10am and 1pm. Food columnist, Sadie Hirst will be taking us on a journey to learn about Georgian food history, samples of Georgian cooking and take part in historical cookery sessions – and you can take home your creations!
