Snowdrop Sunday, Joinery and the RBST
It has been a busy and varied week at the Estate this weekend.
Helen, who is from the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, visited us and we were pleased to share details of our Lincoln Red herd with her and offer our support to the organisation. The Trust seeks to promote and protect the future of our rare and native breeds of farm livestock. They monitor the number of breeding females and the threats to the rare breeds. The Trust also try to reduce such threats and hold a gene bank as an insurance policy.
We have also been to visit the Oxton Estate in Nottinghamshire. We were made very welcome and were shown around the Estate. They have an alternative burial ground on the Estate that is set amongst beautiful woodland and meadows, giving an informal setting for burials. There is also a golf course and tenants living on the Estate. It was very interesting to look round.
Our local joiner has been to collect the furniture that needs repairing. That is another small step in restoring the hall. There are also the bigger steps too as the work on the roof continues here at the Hall and also now on the roof at the Rectory. The drains here have been proving a bit of a puzzle but we are confident that Pearce Roofing will sort things out! They are also busy trying to find out how many of the chimneys are open. I wonder if people realise how many we have?
At the weekend, Jacqui, our housekeeper, went up to the Squire’s grave and took him some daffodils. Adrian Massingberd-Mundy died at the age of 85 in the summer of 2012. His birthday is on 10th February and Jacqui takes some daffodils up each year. The Squire is remembered with great affection by many. His passion for hunting, shooting, and fishing together with his love of racing and commitment to tree planting ensured he was well known in the area.
We are really looking forward to Snowdrop Sunday which is taking place at Brinkhill Church on 18th February. We love seeing all the beautiful snowdrops as it gives us a sense that spring is just around the corner. Hopefully the weather will be nice!
